Though it is a federal benefit, most states add a small amount of money, also known as a state supplementary payment, to the federal SSI payment. If the state you were living in paid a supplement, but your new state pays less or none at all, your compensation may be less than before.

Additionally, if your state has no supplementary payment, the federal income limit is $733. This means that you may have to have less income in your new state. Every state except West Virginia, North Dakota, Mississippi and West Virginia currently pays a state supplement to its residents who receive SSI.
