What is the ERTC Deadline?

The deadline to apply for a fully refundable payroll tax credit known as the Employee Retention Tax Credit, or ERTC/ERC, is coming up sooner than many business owners may think. If you’re a business owner or someone working with businesses on ERC applications, you’ll need to move fast to make sure an eligible company can take advantage of this incredible tax credit.

What is the ERTC?

The ERTC/ERC is a payroll tax credit that businesses can claim on qualified wages paid to their employees if they kept staff on payroll in spite of substantial setbacks during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tax credit is for quarterly payroll tax filings from 2020 and 2021, but there is still a chance you and your business may be eligible to retroactively claim this credit – but you’ve got limited time to do so before the ERC tax credit deadline.

You and your business may qualify for this credit and could receive up to $26,000 per employee, so it’s important to determine whether you’re eligible without delay. That’s where the skilled professionals at Dayes Law Firm can assist.

When is the ERTC Deadline?

There are two critical ERTC deadlines for filing a claim based on your past quarterly payroll tax filings:

  • For all quarters in 2020, the deadline to apply for the ERC is April 15, 2024.
  • For all quarters in 2021, the deadline to apply for the ERC is April 15, 2025.

Since 2020 and 2021 have already passed, businesses looking to gain the ERC refunds they are eligible to receive can examine their payroll tax filings for those periods and determine if wages paid after March 12, 2020, through the end of the program are eligible.
